Scholarship Details

The Home Team works together as one, in close partnership with the community, to keep our Home safe and secure. The Home Team consists of the Ministry HQ, seven departments and two statutory boards. Each Home Team agency has a specific role and responsibility but all share a common mission and vision.  

Singapore Merit Scholarship (SMS)

The Singapore Merit Scholarship is awarded to promising students to pursue undergraduate studies in renowned universities. Upon graduation, you will be groomed to take on key positions in one of the Home Affairs Uniformed Services (HUS) - the SPF, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Singapore Prison Service (SPS) or Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), where you will play an integral role in protecting Singapore.


• Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore Citizenship 
• Good co-curricular activities (CCA) records and Physical Fitness (PES A or B)
• GCE ‘A’ Levels (with at least 10 academic units), International Baccalaureate (IB), Polytechnic Diploma (with Merit) or equivalent 
• Display strong leadership qualities and excel in Officer Cadet School (OCS)
• Keen interest in a career with the Home Team

• Tuition and other approved fees 
• Monthly overseas or local maintenance allowance 
• Pre-studies allowance e.g. settling-in, warm clothing, computer 
• Return airfare for attachment programme
• Sponsorship for Masters and exchange programmes (if requirements are met)
• Full salary for the duration of study 
• National Service Disruption
