
The Tamil Media Scholarship, offered by SPH Media and supported by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), provides a unique opportunity for young individuals committed to shaping the future of Tamil media. Designed to nurture the next generation of journalists, this scholarship supports those who are passionate to advance the Tamil language within the media landscape.
With the Tamil Media Scholarship, you’ll help shape the conversation and lead the future of Tamil journalism, ensuring the language thrives across dynamic media platforms.
• Singapore citizen or Singapore permanent resident
• Strong proficiency in the Tamil language
• Strong academic record in Junior College / Polytechnic / International Baccalaureate, or other equivalent qualifications
• Demonstrated leadership qualities as demonstrated in Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and National Service (if applicable)
• A genuine interest in news, current affairs, and media
• Strong communication and written language skills
Academic Criteria
Tamil Media Scholarship (Full-Term):
• GCE A-levels; or
• International Baccalaureate; or
• NUS High School Diploma; or
• Polytechnic Diploma; or
•Other high school diplomas or equivalent.
You may apply prior to receiving your final examination results.
Tamil Media Scholarship (Mid-Term):
• GCE A-levels; or
• International Baccalaureate; or
• NUS High School Diploma; or
• Polytechnic Diploma; or
• Other high school diploma or equivalent; and
• At least one semester of university results.
Application should be made before the final year of your undergraduate studies.
Scholarship Coverage
Financial Support:
• Tuition & Fees: Full coverage for tuition and all compulsory university fees.*
• Allowance: Monthly maintenance stipend provided.
• Grant: One-time grant for university-related expenses.
*For mid-term applicants, tuition and other compulsory fees incurred before the award will be back paid.

• Exchange Programme: Scholars are supported to participate in overseas exchange programmes offered by their university, gaining international exposure and new perspectives.
Post-Graduation Opportunity
• Upon graduation, Tamil Media Scholarship recipients will serve a bond with SPH Media (duration varies by course and sponsorship).
• Scholars will complete a 2-year secondment with MDDI’s Translation Department (TD) during the initial period of their bond.
• Following the secondment, scholars will return to SPH Media to serve the remaining bond period within the Tamil Murasu newsroom or other relevant departments, based on business needs and individual career aspirations.
• All undergraduate courses (except Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Architecture).
• Tenable at Local and Overseas Universities.
